Switch from a third-level domain to your domain

How to switch from a third-level domain to your domain

Reset to CRM

If you have no problems with losing the contents of the test hosting, you can request a reset of the CRM and then activate the product on one of your domains.

Add domain as alias

If you do not wish to reset the hosting, you can proceed with setting up an alias for the currently active hosting.

Please note that the hosting solution is listed in the wlcp with the internal domain and not with the alias.

By following the steps below, you ensure that the third-level domain is not visible to website visitors:

1. DNS settings:

If the domain to be set up is managed via the same control panel of the hosting solution, all DNS settings are configured automatically.
If the domain to be set up is not managed via the same control panel, the DNS entries must be added manually:
Retrieve the IP address configured for the third-level domain (e.g.: 1.2.3.4).
Add two new DNS entries:

  • name: mydomain.com
  • type: A
  • value: 1.2.3.4

2. SSL settings

SSL certificates are issued by the wlcp with the help of Let’s Encrypt. If the domain is on a different control panel or is an external domain, it is advisable to add the required DNS entries before configuring the alias so that the SSL certificate is issued shortly after the domain name is set up.

3. Domain name settings

Click on the product name in the ControlPanel. You will then be redirected to the wlcp.

step 01 brand pdc

On the overview page of the third-level domain, click on one of the Manage buttons.

step 02 wlcp manage domain

Add new alias

step 03 wlcp add domain alias

Specify the domain name

step 04 wlcp input domain

If you are using WordPress hosting, you must also change the domain name via the WordPress control panel in addition to all the previous steps. This action may only be carried out after the DNS settings have been made.

step 05 wp change domain name

You can also change the domain name via the admin user’s profile page if the personal website is displayed on the blog pages or in comments.

If you have created blog posts during the test phase, you should ensure that the links to other pages of the blog contain the correct URL in all posts.

If there are many posts with many internal links, it is easier to use a search and replace plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/search replace/
