What does GDPR stand for?
GDPR stands for “General Data Protection Regulation” (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and in its most basic form sets out how personal data should be lawfully processed (including how it is generally collected, used, protected or handled).
This is intended to strengthen data protection for all individuals whose personal data falls within the scope of the GDPR. Control over this data is to be placed back in their hands.
What exactly is “personal data”?
Personal data within the meaning of the GDPR is all data that relates to an identified or identifiable living person. This also includes information that, if collected, can lead to the identification of a person.
This also applies to data that has been pseudonymized or encrypted, as long as the encryption/anonymization is reversible. This means that the decryption keys must be stored separately from the pseudonymized data in order to comply with data protection obligations.
Examples of personal data include basic identity data such as names; medical, genetic and biometric data; and web data such as IP addresses, personal email addresses, political opinions and sexual orientation data.
Examples of non-personal data include company registration numbers, universal company email addresses, such as info@company.com, and anonymized data.
What does compliance mean? What measures are required for this?
Basically, in order to comply with data protection regulations, you must take measures to handle the personal data processed in the course of your business activities responsibly and fulfill the associated information obligations. These measures can often be difficult to implement and have a restrictive effect on your business activities.
However, complying with online data protection regulations is a valuable growth opportunity for your website/app: you can protect and build on your reputation as a reliable/reputable company, increase your user numbers and your turnover
What does it mean for me?
According to the new Data Protection Act (GDPR), which came into force on 01.09.2023, all website operators who collect data from visitors to their website must, among other things, disclose this in their data protection declarations. The example mentioned here is not exhaustive.
As a registrar, we provide an analysis tool that scans our customers’ websites and sends an automated message to the customer concerned if there is a suspected breach of data protection regulations.

Please note that we are not a law firm with legal experts and therefore cannot provide any recommendation or advice on whether and which data protection provisions you need to include on your website. This is a complex and legally demanding area that can only be handled correctly by specialized lawyers.

The Iubenda product helps you to create a privacy policy, cookie policy, cookie banner and terms and conditions. Your website is scanned and services already used on your website, such as YouTube videos and Google Analytics, are automatically included in the privacy policy. The Iubenda product helps you to implement the requirements of the GDPR step by step. Implementation takes some time, as all content is examined and analyzed in detail in Iubenda. However, the effort is worth it and, if used correctly, protects you from possible legal consequences.
